A Love Story, Built from the Ground Up
The story of The Land began not with a blueprint, but with a feeling.
In 2010, our founder, Dave, was offered the chance to view a secluded, undeveloped 54-acre parcel in Jefferson, Maine. What he found was heavily logged land—a tangle of trees, rocks, stumps, and untamed scrub brush. Most people would have seen a massive project, but standing atop the highest point, Dave felt an unmistakable sense of peace and potential. He fell in love with the land, not for what it was, but for the vision of what it could be.
Dave purchased the land, along with a large excavator, and embarked on a four-year, one-man mission. Spending every spare moment on the property, he dedicated himself to unearthing ledge, rocks, and ancient stumps, working to restore the landscape to its intended, natural state.
A New Chapter
Four years into the transformation, Dave was introduced to Karen, and their friendship quickly blossomed. Karen, a lifelong rockhound with a profound connection to nature, felt the exact same calling on her first visit. It was a true turning point for both of them—a shared love for the wild spirit of the place.
A year later, Dave proposed to Karen on their special gathering spot on the property. Soon after, they married on that very rock, memorializing it as the first wedding ever held on The Land.
The Land is Born
The wedding kicked the transformation into overdrive. As they planned their off-grid home, they realized the large solar array needed the perfect foundation. They decided the best and most beautiful solution was a traditional New England post and beam barn, perfectly positioned for the solar panels.
They partnered with a local craftsman who shared their passion for old-school, authentic building methods. The moment the stunning barn was complete, Karen looked at it and said, “We should have weddings here!” And just like that, the idea of “The Land”—a venue built on love, vision, and natural beauty—was officially born.
After 15 years of continuous work, The Land has become a wondrous and restorative destination. Karen and Dave will never stop adding and evolving the property, but the time has come to share it. They invite you to visit, feel the magic for yourself, and begin a new, memorable chapter of your own life on The Land.
